Car dealers, oy!

As I've mentioned in my last entry, my daughter is in dire need of a car. So, being a good parent, I went with her to several dealerships looking for a new set of wheels. Since I'm the more practical type (Yeah, right, I was the one who bought the Trans Am back in 1994 in the first place, so who am I to talk?), I suggested a Scion, and Echo or a VW Bug.

We took the Scion for a test drive and found that my daughter is just like me. She has to have a muscle car, not a gutless wonder. Shrugging, I took her to see the Camaro, Corvette and when she saw the 2005 Ford Mustang, it was love at first sight.

After dodging the high pressure sales people at Cerritos Ford, we took a moment to ponder the purchase and came to the conclusion that that was the car for her. So, I went to Board Ford, paper in hand with the exact specs of the car we wanted to make a deal.

To say I left the dealership in digust is an understatement. They were marking up their cars by $15,000! That's a 75% increase in price since the car's Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) was $21,000 originally. They had the gall to claim that I couldn't make a better deal and wanted me to sign right there and then.

So, I went back to Cerritos Ford and bought the car at $22,000 which was the MSRP and no markup. My daughter is happy, I'm happy and Board Ford can kiss my ass for all I care.

Also, some people have noticed certain changes on my site and Fanfiction.net account, I'll get around to that in the near future.

75%, what a rip-off. The MSRP already includes a margin of profit, so there's no reason to deviate much from it. Good riddance to them.

As for FF.NET and stuff, I'm sure you'll fill us in when you are ready. :)

Only thing I noticed WRT to the FF.net account was that it was now listed as author "Burgerbecky."

15,000 buck markup? You're shitting me?

Damn...I think some sale-penises need to be sliced for that shit.

Course, you could've been driving around in my '89 Ford Probe death car, Kami-sama rest its soul (so many edge-of-danger memories). 400 bucks. :\

Have her leave us a message about the car
I hope she enjoys the car. And the Insurance to go with it.

Get her to write us a brief review of what she thinks of the car in about 3 or 4 months.

Rip-Off Artists, more like.
That dealer needs to be reported to Ford! The most a dealer is allowed to add in mark up, - I used to have relatives that worked in the industry! - is about 6.5 percent! For the Mustang you mentioned, the AMRP (Adjusted Maximum Retali Price) would be $22,500. So, you got the right price when you went to Cerritos, but Board is in severe need of an inspection from corporate headquarters...

Scratching my head,

Can't really say I can follow the markup story, but that's probably cause I'm european, and don't have that US stuff to deal with. That does not take away the fact that the purchase cost for a car where I'm at is significantly higher then the US, mostly due to taxes. I swear, my country will try leveling out with the rest of Europe on ANYTHING but will end with the taxes on anything car related. And even then they'll probably try and stop that from happening.

No... the big spending for me came after driving with my car (Ford Cougar) after a while... Yearly checkup needed to be done, and a few things cropped up as not being 100% in order. The bill I got was hefty (it still hurts), but the thing that still galled me most was the pricetag they hung on two pieces of rubber in the front suspension. Which were law-required to get changed... Which weren't sold seperatly... Which ended me on a complete set of lower control arms at the front. Now that'd be fine and dandy (bill hurt, but I can get over that) if it weren't that I gathered I payed over 300% of the item-cost price of what one would pay in Canada. All in all, it doesn't make Ford one of the more attractive dealers in my eyes, even if my local dealer is a great one.

Oh well... I suspect you atleast have a car now that is truly ready to terrorize the road :P

A long time ago
I started poking around looking for contrabandent (First noticed Contraband on EV Nova's port to PC since it was the first time EV had been ported to PC.) Now, since I hadn't seen anything out from it for quite awhile I thought about seeing what had been done and ran across a lack of updates, but I resolved to figure out what happened and threw quite a bit of time searching until I discovered this. I'm rather shocked at the sheer amount of things thats happened to you. I'm really sorry about that... I thought my problems were bad. heh... Well, thats about all i had to say.
